Tsavo East and West National Park

The teeming life of joint mass of Tsavo West and Tsavo East forming one of Africa's largest wilderness reserves, covering 4% of Kenya's total land area of 11,747sq.km in the Southeast of Kenya.  Tsavo East forms the largest protected area in Kenya and is home to most of the larger mammals, vast herds of dust –red elephants. It features bushy grasslands, open plains, semi-arid acacia scrubs and woodlands.

The Park acquired its name ‘Tsavo', meaning ‘slaughter' from the Akamba people, who first migrated to the area some five centuries ago - long before the arrival of the more famous leonine slaughterers, the ‘Man-Eaters' of Tsavo.

Tsavo offers magnificent game viewing in the world with amazing game attractions such as lions, wild dogs, leopard, buffalo, rhino, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, crocodile, mongoose, dikdik, lesser kudu and nocturnal porcupine.

Tsavo is a birdwatcher's paradise with prolific bird species featuring 500 recorded species in the East and 600 in the West. Species include hornbills, weavers, sunbirds, raptors, the African skimmer, rollers, goshawk, red and yellow bishop, vulture and the white-headed buffalo weaver, woodpecker, starling and pigeon, Maasai and Somali ostrich abound along with Kori bustard, carmine bee-eater and an East African speciality; the vulturine guinea fowl are commonly seen.

Activities to do in both parks include; camping, game drives, bird watching, guided nature walks, underwater hippo and fish watching and cave exploration.
