Masai Mara National Reserve

Masai Mara National Reserve

Famously known as the 8th Wonder of the World, the Wildebeest Migration. The Great Migration is one of the most impressive natural events worldwide, involving more than a million wildebeests, zebras, elands and other herbivores that migrate annually to Masai Mara from Serengeti plains in Tanzania in search of fresh greener pasture and water.

The migration begins to cross the Mara River late July. By August the herd crosses over and begins to spread all over Masai Mara plains. By the end of October and early November, the wildebeest and thousands of Zebras move down to Serengeti.

People across the World stream to Kenya during this time to witness the great spectacle and create amazing and forever memories. An interesting fact about the wildebeest is that both male and female wildebeest have horns and can live up to 20 years in the wild.

More than 470 species of birds have been identified in the park, many of which are migrants. Birds that call this area home for at least part of the year include: ostriches, , secretary birds, hornbills, marabou storks, crowned cranes vultures, long-crested eagles, African pygmy-falcons and the roller; the national bird of Kenya.

There are nice camps and lodges situated along the Talek and Mara River that gives you the best view experience as the wildebeest cross over. The game drive gives you an unforgettable experience. The cuisines from different camps and lodges and one more experience one should not leave the Mara without is the interaction with the Maasai people when you visit their villages and get to learn their culture like the dance, attires, their houses, cattle and carry some souvenirs with you for memories.
