Located to the East of Arusha and North of the small town of Moshi, Mt. Kilimanjaro is one of the most iconic sights in Africa. The Volcano is made up of a central cone slopes on its western flank running to the Shira Plateau. On the right hand side the slopes of the crater run down and back up to the peak of Mawenzi at around 5,100m that is rarely attempted though it's possible to spend the night at the peak's shadow. It is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest single free-standing mountain in the world, with its summit of 5,895 m above sea level and at about 4,900 m high from its plateau base.
