Samburu National Reserve

Samburu National Reserve is less known national reserve and yet teaming with life. It is located at the South Eastern corner of Samburu District in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya, on the banks of Ewaso Nyiro River, which separates it from the Buffalo Springs National Reserve. The reserve covers an area of 165 Km² and is located around 345Km from Nairobi.

The Reserve is rich in wildlife as it's known for “Samburu Special”, a rare northern special species. They include the Beisa Oryx, Somali Ostrich, Reticulated Giraffe, Generuk and Grevy Zebra.

The big cats such as the Lion, Leopard and Cheetah are easily spotted in the reserve. Kamunyak the Miracle Lioness that adapted the baby Oryx is a resident in the reserve.  Birdlife is abundant with over 450 species recorded including the Lesser Kestrel and the Taita Falcon species of global conservation concern. Samburu also boosts of hosting the five vulnerable species like African Darter, Great Egret, White-headed Vulture, Martial Eagle and the Yellow-billed Ox-pecker found habitat in the reserve.

You will experience the reserves scenic landscape with vast grassland savannah with acacia trees. A sight to behold as you enjoy guided nature walks, bird watching and game drives. Visit the local villages and interact with the community and get a test of the Samburu's beautiful remote culture, pastoral and nomadic way of life.
