12 Days Uganda Game, Chimps And Gorilla Tracking

Experience 12 days Uganda game, chimps and  Gorilla  tracking safari. Explore the best of Uganda from game viewing, boat excursions, walking safari and the sought after experience of chimpanzee and gorilla tracking. You will visit Queen Elizabeth; a park rich in wildlife. Get to track gorillas in Bwindi forest; Batwa pigmies and Lake Bunyonyi, Murchinson falls, Kibale and Lake Mburo national parks.


DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN ENTEBBE 

You will be met by the driver upon arrival and enjoy a city tour before being transferred to  your hotel in Entebbe  for overnight.

DAY 2: ENTEBBE TO MURCHINSONS FALLS

After a short briefing from your guide , take a gentle drive to Ziwa rhino sanctuary, from there proceed to Murchison Falls Conservation Area. Drive through Luwero. Lunch en-route and continue to the park. Visit the top of the stimulating Murchison Falls, crashing through a narrow gorge.

DAY 3: MURCHISONS FALLS (GAME DRIVE AND BOAT EXCURSION)

Wake up to an early morning game viewing north of the Nile. Launch trip to the bottom of the mighty exciting falls, with crocodiles, and a vast array of birds including the rare shoebill stork, lounging on the banks of the Nile. Hippos are everywhere!

DAY 4: MURCHISON FALLS / FORT PORTAL. 

An early start. Drive south to Fort Portal, past big tea plantations with lunch en route. Proceed to your lodging in Kibale. Either explore a crater lake nearby or relax at your lodge.

DAY 5: CHIMPS TRACKING AT KIBALE FOREST 

With the highest number of primates in Africa, you will have a guided nature walk in Kibale Forest in which you will see the red, black and white colobus, blue monkeys, baboons and a large number of chimpanzees. You can have a forest walk to spot chimps and other primates playing through the forest. Birdlife is also fabulous, with over 300 species recorded in the forest, commonly you might be able to see the casqued hornbill and track the green breasted pitta that is found only in one place in the world.

DAY 6: RWENZORI TO QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, depart for Queen Elizabeth Park, passing via the Rwenzoris, “Mountains of the Moon” as they are sometimes called. Half day Hike to the Rwenzori mountains. Continue to Queen Elizabeth. You will have an evening  game drive.

DAY 7: QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

Visit Katwe Salt Lake, and the local community including local fishing villages, and Twin Lakes. Lake Katwe is an ancient Salt Lake found in south western Uganda, where salt is rudimentally harvested using local materials and methods. Workers extract three main products from the lake: blocks of rock salt; high-quality salt crystals that can be sold as table salt; and salty mud. The salt extracted is not of industrial or factory significance as much of it is used for animals and local foods preservation.

DAY 8: WHOLE DAY AT QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, go for a morning game drive in the park and in the afternoon and be rewarded with a River cruise on the Kazinga Channel; a 32-kilometre long natural channel connecting Lake Gorge and Lake Edward. The shores of this channel draw a large number of wild animals, birds and reptiles all through the year, with one of the largest population of hippos in the whole world as well as plentiful Nile crocodiles. While returning to the lodge, do a short game drive in the park in the evening.

DAY 9: QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK TO BWINDI IMPENETRABLE FOREST

After breakfast, transfer to the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park and enjoy a game drive, where you may have a chance at seeing the famous Tree Climbing Lions this area is known for. The lions climb up the Candelabra trees running away from the hot ground during dry seasons and also small ants that bite them. On the tree branches as they hang, they also get to rest from their hunt and spy for more prey. Whilst driving through the savannah plains you will spot other wildlife like Elephants and a good number of birds. Afterwards travel onwards to Bwindi Gorilla Park and enjoy the evening at leisure.

DAY 10: BWINDI - GORILLA TRACKING

Today, tick off gorilla tracking from your bucket list! With gorilla permits included in your package, along with a guide and porters who will carry your shoulder pack, set off to the thick forest in search of gorillas. The terrain can be difficult, with steep slopes covered in dense vegetation that gives the park its name. In addition, the altitude of up to 1600m a means participants do need to be reasonably fit. The time taken to track the gorillas will vary enormously, from as little as half an hour to as much as 8-9 hours before one returns to camp but coming face to face with these amazing primates will reward you. For those not wishing to participate, you are welcome to relax at the lodge and enjoy the day at leisure.

DAY 11: BWINDI - BUNYONYI - BATWA PYGMIES TO LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, depart and visit pygmy village where the Pygmies, a rather shorter-than normal humans (about 3-4.8ft tall), can be found in the great lakes region of Africa – Bwindi, Semuliki, Kisoro and Lake Bunyonyi in Uganda.  Here you will learn their way of life including hunting, fishing, fruit gathering, a brief show around their villages and homesteads as well as their vocational school.Later transfer to Lake Mburo National Park passing several communities on the way. Arrive in the afternoon, relax at the Camp or go for an evening game drive in the park.

Lake Mburo National Park now contains much woodland as there are no elephants to tame the vegetation. In the western part of the park, the savanna is interspersed with rocky ridges and forested gorges while patches of papyrus swamp and narrow bands of lush riparian woodland line many lakes.

DAY 12:  SAFARI WALK IN LAKE MBURO – ENTEBBE 

After breakfast, if time allows, enjoy short game drive or walking safari in the park. You will pass by Kayabwe equator point for the equator experience , before  being transferred  to the airport for your flight home.
